Teaching with Impact is a program for professional teacher training, paired with innovative learning materials provided by a sustainable book chain. On March 31st the official Launch of Teaching with Impact Malawi was held at Mwatibu Primary School in Lilongwe.
The launch was held at a primary school where the teachers have been trained on the use of the Correctbook. You could feel the positive and happy excitement from the audience, in a lively environment. During the launch, children danced, sang and read out poems, and several speakers gave insightful presentations. One presentation that stood out, was a speech by a headteacher.
This head teacher worked at a school in a rural area, where most families are impoverished. Because of the low income of the parents, most families can hardly afford to buy textbooks for their children, and once they buy exercise books, they cannot afford to invest in a bag to carry the books. They will have to carry the books in their hands. In these hard times, it is even more difficult for parents to buy exercise books, and therefore children often go to school without writing materials.
The head teacher explained how grateful he was for the Correctbooks, because now it will ease the pressure of parents on spending for exercise books. Students can now write and rewrite for almost three years. Often children write carelessly and do not handle their books with care, within a week or two, the exercise book is gone. But with a Correctbook they can write and erase over and over.
During the launch, there was background noise from children through out the event. You could hear singing and you could see them dancing. They just could not go away, they wanted to be part of the launch. The excitement and motivation of the children present, to use and write in the Correctbooks was contagious. This will motivate the children to go to school, just to have the book and write in it. The children will be so busy penning in the books, that in the process they will learn to write.
