Current practices in developing, procuring and distributing reading materials do not ensure availability for all young learners. When reading materials are available, they’re often poorly written, very costly, only available in small quantities, not in the languages that students understand, or teachers lack the knowledge to effectively use them.
BlueTree supported the provision of Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) by providing technical advice to improve book development, procurement, print and distribution for Pupils Books, Teacher Guides and Supplementary Reading materials.
The technical assistance provided by BlueTree included: expertise on design of the materials to improve the quality and durability of TLMs and support of procurement and distribution processes.
As a result of BlueTree’s support, the unit cost per book was reduced due to the training on cost efficient book design. Additionally, the capacity of local printers was increased and the printed books were more durable. During field visits to various schools, it was observed that the books were still in good condition after more than a year in use.
BlueTree contributed to the delivery of millions of books to the hands of children across the globe.
